Peter Munk founded Barrick Gold Inc in 1983 and since then he has been driving the agenda for the company. It is generally agreed that Mr. Munk has over the years build the company into a leading gold producer in the world. Despite that, there have been recent mistakes which have raised questions about his leadership.
Peter Munk currently owns less than ¼ per cent of the company stills leads in laying strategies for the company. He is the current chairman. Some investors think that his decisions are misguided. This has lead to problems at many mines owned by the company.
The falling bullion prices have largely affected gold miners across the globe. This is due to increased costs. Barrick has been the worst hit as compared to rivals. In the last two years, the company’s share price has gone down by 65 per cent.
Barrick has committed many mistakes in its business decisions. The first one is the takeover of Equinox in 2011. This is a copper mining company focused on Africa. Many have said that this is the deal that triggered the slide in the company’s share price.
