A series of meetings for the public are being held across the province of New Brunswick in order to answer questions about the proposed plan for the TransCanada pipeline East-West that will run close by Hampton as it heads on to Saint John’s Canaport. The project is estimated to cost $12 billion. It is believed that the pipeline will create many short-term jobs and residents say as long as it does not damage the environment or their property, they are for it.
10,000 jobs could be created resulting in $10 billion of GDP accrued over the six- year construction phase. Deloitte & Touche has estimated that the project could maintain 1,000 full time jobs and generate $25.3 billion over a 40-year span of operation.
